Lollies at the Party

  • Introducing Problem Solving Strategies

Over the next month or so, I thought it would be good to post some examples of mathematical problems that are:

    1. accessible - which means that most Primary students can engage with them
    2. strategic - which means that you should be able to find the solution using on of the standard mathematical problem solving strategies.

So, here goes with a problem that most grades should be able to get going on if they decide to "act it out". The problem is all about lollies (which don't have to be bad for you) and sharing (which is always good for you).

As you can see, the lollies are all ready to go ... but there is a party organiser who gets in the way and doesn't allow the children to start eating.

Download the .pdf for full details of the problem ... and please think generously and bring a few (safely edible) lollies into school with you when you decide to get the class going on the challenge.
