Number Line

Research by Keith Devlin has shown that the ability to place a number in the right position on an empty number line is an early sign that the student will go well in maths when they get to secondary school. Empty number lines call for an understanding of proportion – “It comes more than halfway between …” and it is that understanding which is so important later on.
