How should our diamond Su Doku be completed so that the numbers 1 - 8 occur once in each row and once in each smaller diamond?

In a diamond Su Doku, some of the numbers 1 – 8 are already in position. The empty triangles have to be filled with numbers such that 1 - 8 occur once in every row and once in every smaller diamond (as shown by the shading of the diagrams below).

Note how the horizontal rows join in pairs to make complete rows of 8 triangles. If you are not quite sure how this works, the diagram below should help you see how these broken rows join up.
