Natural Maths Strategies Assessment Guides
As soon as the main series, Natural Maths Strategies, was
complete, it became clear from teacher feedback that extra support would
be needed to use the series for assessment purposes. As a result, the
Assessment Guides were prepared and aimed to give:
- A detailed view of what each of the 'big ideas' on which the
series is based really means in terms of language, strategies,
representations and understandings. These led to the creation of
'Learning Horizons' for each 'big idea'.
- Examples of work samples that showed different levels of
achievement, how such work samples could be annotated and what
planning could be made on the basis of the evidence that the samples
provided.
Here is an example of the a learning horizon and corresponding work
sample from Assessment Guide 2:
Using the learning horizon as a guide, we
show how student work-samples can be annotated to provide an assessment
summary for that student as well as lead to informed planning on what the
individual's needs are.
