Natural Maths Strategies for Parents
The idea for this book started at a parent’s evening at Milton State
School, Brisbane, where Ann and Johnny were discussing the mental
strategies that have become a central component of the new maths
syllabus. It was the parents who suggested that they would find it
helpful to have a reference point so that they could become fully
involved in supporting their children in learning maths.
The book gives the key mental computation strategies, shows their
methods of representation and suggests activities that parents can share
with their child.
This book would be of great interest to all parents
who want to understand what's new in maths teaching. We are also interested in schools using the book to introduce parents to the
new strategies, representations and, most importantly, language that
surrounds our push towards improving children's mental computation.
