The roles that games play in the conceptual understanding of and fluency with place value is not to be underestimated. In their simplest form the five games presented here allow students to:

  1. Read, write and interpret numbers to 120,
  2. Work with decade names and the additive property of place value,
  3. Use counting on and back in 1s and 10s,
  4. Compare, order and sequence numbers on a 120 grid and on an empty number line,
  5. Understand that a number can be made and decomposed in many ways,
  6. Use the multiplicative aspect of place value (5 lots of 10 is 50).

The games in this series support the teaching of:

Foundation: ACMNA001, ACMNA002.

Year 1: ACMNA012, ACMNA013, ACMNA014.

Year 2: ACMNA026, ACMNA027, ACMNA028.
