This booklet describes a range of activities that can be based on the Function Machine programs (yes, there are three programs, each at a different level). The Patterns and Algebra strand of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics lays particular emphasis on the student being able to spot a pattern in data and to articulate the underlying rule. For example, the Year 3 curriculum includes:
Describe, continue, and create number patterns resulting from performing addition or subtraction (ACMNA060)
The function machines support your teaching of this topic by providing randomly-generated examples of data that involve number patterns based on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers.
This addition mat supports the teaching of the ACM for Year 3: ACMNA060, Year 4: ACMNA081, Year 5: ACMNA107 and Year 6: ACMNA134.
