From simple counting in tens, ones or tens and ones to higher level investigations that go to 10 000 and beyond the Place Value software is a powerful tool for developing deep understanding of place value its associated language and conventions as well as facility with operations involving 1s, 10s, 100s and 1 000s.
The activities can be used in conjunction with the mini 10s and 1s whiteboards provided or with blank mini-whiteboards. After the students have made use of their mini-whiteboards in response to a challenge, the interactive whiteboard can be used to enable students to share ideas and to focus attention on the key aspects of place value. The Place Value booklet also gives 13 mental routines that give a broad coverage of place value topics in the Year 1, 2 and 3 levels of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics.
Decimal Value supports the teaching of the ACM Number and Place Value strand for Year 1: ACMNA012, ACMNA013 and ACMNA014, Year 2: ACMNA026, ACMNA027 and ACMNA028 and Year 3: ACMNA052 and ACMNA053.
