The activities provided here will assist in uncovering lack of understanding with fcraction and provide starting points to overcome them as well as preparing for the Year 4 curriculum items that cover fractions.
Within this package you will find:
- A mental routine with explicit target strategies, matched vocabulary, closed, open and flip questions and a checklist for observation and record keeping.
- A game to engage student’s interest and provide targeted practice of the concepts being developed.
- A problematised situation to challenge student thinking and provide purposeful use of concepts being taught.

This material supports the teaching of:
Year 3: ACMNA058: Model and represent unit fractions including 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, 1/5 and their multiples to a complete whole.
Year 4: ACMNA077: Investigate equivalent fractions used in contexts.
Year 4: ACMNA078: Count by quarters halves and thirds, including with mixed numerals. Locate and represent these fractions on a number line.

This unit of work is focussed on Year 6: ACMNA122, where special numbers such as prime, composite, square and triangular numbers.
