About Preventing the Numeracy Gap in the Early Years (3rd Oct 2018):
A new workshop with Ann Baker
For the last year Ann has been writing and trialling her 'Prevent the Numeracy gap' initiative with schools.
The focus is on catching students early enough to prevent the widening of the numeracy gap. There is mounting evidence that the sooner we identify and immerse students in and enrich their numeracy the more long term impact we can make.
Ann had developed a 'prevention' scaffold for the early years (Preschool, Foundation, Year 1, although older students can also benefit if they’re struggling to develop numeracy skills).
As always Ann will present practical, classroom based ideas including :
observation guides and strategies
hands on activities
current research and best practice.

The proven Natural Maths STAR model is used as the structure for these problem solving books matched to the Australian Curriculum.
Unlike other interactive Australian coin programs, the coin mat facilitates coin recognition, equivalence, counting money amounts, and giving change.
Schools have commented that there are proven NAPLAN improvements when they have used the STAR model for problem solving. This poster set is an essential classroom addition.
