This package gives a typical lesson plan that can be used to run the 10 problematized situations that we have provided. A key feature of the problematized situations is the realism of the context within which the they are set. The problems:

  • are everyday situations familiar to the learner
  • create scenarios that can be resolved in a number of different ways
  • have multiple entry and exit points.
  • allow students to make choices about how to use what they do know and can do.

The material is also set within the context of an inquiry that will enable the teacher to show where the students started from and where they have reached in their exploration of multiplicative thinking.

Building Multiplicative Strategies – Problematized Situations supports the teaching of the ACM Number and Place Value strands for Year 3: ACMNA057, Year 4: ACMNA076  and Year 5: ACMNA100.
