This strategy mat is designed to develop fluency and flexibility with place value to 120.
The mat can be used as a teaching tool as well as an aide-memoire for the students. It can be used for explicit teaching during strategy lessons, as a recording space during mental routines or number talks as well as a recording space for problem solving. Basically, it provides support and scaffolds for students as they work with you or independently.
The mat is designed to complement the Early Place Value series that we recently published. An outline of this material is given in the Series Introduction.
